Stoniture: A Nature-Inspired Sofa by Abbas Sufi Nejad

Winner of the Golden A' Furniture Design Award in 2023

The designer's inspiration for Stoniture comes from one of the most primitive elements of nature - stone. Nejad aimed to evoke a sense of familiarity and trust at an intuitive level, creating a furniture piece that feels like a part of nature. The user is intended to feel as if they are a stone around which water flows, surrounded by the tranquility of nature.

What sets Stoniture apart from other furniture designs is its unique properties. The sofa is designed with a curved edge and a proper support surface to provide a comfortable and relaxing position. The seat foam adjusts slightly when sitting, ensuring a comfortable experience for the user. The simple design of the furniture piece reflects the simplicity and beauty of natural stone, a testament to Nejad's attention to detail and respect for natural elements.

Stoniture is realized using wood for its body structure and 30 density foam in its seat. The technical specifications include a size of 110*95*50 cm, making it a perfect addition to any living space. The design tags associated with Stoniture include nature-inspired, stone, simplicity, comfort, relaxation, unique, blend, interaction, function, and familiarity.

The interaction between the natural element of stone and the function of the furniture has determined Stoniture's current form. The designer aimed to create a furniture piece that feels like a part of nature, creating a unique blend of nature and functionality. This design was crafted in Tehran in 2023, following extensive research on the properties and characteristics of natural stone and how to translate those into a functional piece of furniture.

The main challenge in designing Stoniture was to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing design that captures the essence of the designer's inspiration while also meeting the practical needs of users. Despite these challenges, Stoniture emerged as a winner of the prestigious Golden A' Furniture Design Award in 2023, a testament to its marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creation that advances art, science, design, and technology.
